SAN Data Migration

Announcement - 01/05/2004

The Information Technology Division has purchased a new storage area network (SAN) for mission-critical disk storage space. This new appliance provides increased storage space, seamless hardware administration, and enhanced reliability. During the week of January 5th and every weekend through February 29th, the servers connected to the old storage systems will be migrated to the new storage area network. During this period, there will be intermittent downtime to the following services provided from the OSU Stillwater datacenter: \r\n\r\nOnline Library System - Hugo \r\n Blackboard Course Management \r\n IT Web Services\r\n OSU Home website (Stillwater) \r\n IT Division website \r\n Microsoft Campus Agreement Download Application \r\n OSU System Calendar \r\n All webpages on osu.okstate.edu \r\n IT Division Oracle Database Servers \r\n Stillwater NotesMail Servers \r\n OKSTATE Tree Novell File/Print & Authentication - This includes Home and Group Drives for faculty, staff and students. \r\n ePrint \r\n Stillwater FrontPage Server \r\n Pinnacle Telecom Order System \r\n\r\nThe IT Division will be working to minimize the downtime of the different systems during this process. Every effort will be made to complete the migrations early. Information Technology will provide notification of individual service interruptions and estimated restoration times on the IT Division website (www.it.okstate.edu) throughout the process. Additionally, following the first week, Information Technology staff will be working weekends to try to minimize the impact on daily operations. \r\n\r\nWe apologize for the inconvenience to users during this substantial upgrade of our storage system, and expect the upgrade of the existing less-robust and less-reliable equipment will protect against future unplanned downtime, making this planned downtime a strong investment in future resiliency.
